PayPal (Payment Status Glossary)

Payment status – what does it mean?



Active

  • Subscriptions: You have automatic payments scheduled for this subscription.

Cancelled

  • Money requests: This request was cancelled by you or the sender.
  • Payments sent: You cancelled this payment, and the money was returned to your account.
  • Subscriptions: The subscription was cancelled and no more payments will be made.

Cleared

  • Payments received: The eCheque you received has cleared and the funds are now in your account.

Completed

  • Payments received: The transaction is complete and the funds are in your account.
  • Payments sent: The recipient has received your payment.
  • Subscriptions: All payments for this subscription are complete.
  • Withdrawals to your bank account: The funds have been transferred and should be in your bank account within a few business days.

Denied

  • Payments sent: The recipient declined your payment.
  • Payments received: You declined this payment.

Expired

  • When you place an order: The transaction expired.

Failed

  • Payments sent: Your payment didn’t go through.

Held

  • Payments received: The money is being held pending reversal.
  • Payments sent: The money is being held pending reversal.

In progress

  • Payments sent: You’ve sent a payment, but the recipient hasn’t accepted it yet.

On hold

  • Payments received: The money is being held temporarily because the sender may have filed a dispute or we are reviewing the transaction
  • Payments sent: The money is on hold while you dispute the transaction.
  • Withdrawals to your bank account: The withdrawal didn’t go through due to a problem with your bank account.

On hold – ship now

  • Payments received: The transaction is under a payment hold for an eBay item. Your funds will be released when one of the following occurs:
    • The buyer leaves you positive feedback
    • 21 days pass without a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal filed on the transaction.

Paid

  • Money requests: If you sent someone a Money Request, you have now been paid by that person.
    If you received a Money Request from someone, you have now paid that person.

Pending

  • Money requests: This money request is unpaid.
    If you sent someone a Money Request, you can edit, send a reminder or cancel the request.
    If you received a Money Request from someone, you can choose whether to pay or not.
  • Withdrawals to your bank account: Your withdrawal of funds to your bank account is in progress. The funds will appear in your bank account once processed.

Refunded

  • Refunded or Partially refunded: If you paid by debit or credit card, your refund will go to that card. Otherwise, your refund will go to your PayPal account.
  • Payments sent: The recipient refunded your payment.

Refused

  • Payments sent: The recipient declined your payment.

Returned

  • Payments sent: Your payment was returned because the recipient didn’t claim it within 30 days.

Reversed

  • Payments sent: The payment was cancelled by you or PayPal.
  • Withdrawals to your bank account: Your withdrawal was declined, and the funds have been returned to your PayPal account. We’ll email you why this happened.

Temporary hold

  • Payments sent and received: We may place a temporary hold on a transaction when it’s being reviewed. The process is usually quick, and you’ll see the status change to “Completed” upon review.

Unclaimed

  • Payments Sent: Your payment remains unclaimed by the recipient. This could be for several reasons:
    1. The recipient hasn’t accepted the payment yet.
    2. The recipient has not signed up for a PayPal account to receive your payment yet.
    You can cancel this payment by clicking Unclaimed and thenCancel Payment. Please note that all unclaimed transactions are automatically cancelled after 30 days.

Uncleared

  • Payments received: You’re being paid by eCheque. Payment is in progress, and we recommend you wait until the funds appear in your account before shipping.
  • When you send a payment: The eCheque payment is in progress.

Under review

  • Payments received: We are reviewing this transaction. Please don't ship until we complete our review.

I seldom comment, however after reading some of the responses on this page "PayPal (Payment Status Glossary)".
I actually do have 2 questions for you if you tend not to mind.
Is it just me or does it appear like a few of the responses look as if they are written by brain dead folks?
:-P And, if you are writing at other places, I'd like to follow you. Would you make a list of every one of your public pages like your linkedin profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?
